The new City Utilities Downtown Bus Transfer Station will be located between N. Main Avenue and N. Grant Street in downtown Springfield, Missouri. The $4 million facility is intended to replace the current drab, cramped, and utilitarian station located on McDaniel Street.

h design‘s team has developed a design that is guided by three simple concepts:
1.  Make the facility SAFE for pedestrians, passengers, and CU employees.
2.  Make it RELEVANT to the downtown landscape.
3.  Make it COOL.

The final design includes a great deal of transparency allowing passengers to easily see and navigate to buses and eliminates a number of areas where pedestrians would cross in front of drivers.

Canopies above the outdoor waiting area are sloped outward to help filter vehicle noise and fumes.  The building’s interior will offer more seating, ticketing, offices for security and supervisors, a driver’s lounge, public restrooms, and a multi-purpose community room.

Final plans are on track to be completed by the end of 2014; construction is expected to begin in early 2015, with an opening sometime in early 2016.
