h design group is the architect for the new, luxury apartments to be built at 3900 Lone Pine in southeast Springfield, MO.  The modern, Smart*r Apartments are designed to attract young, active professionals and families with a fresh location just South of Sequiota Park.


The new development will include a clubhouse and 7 apartment buildings with a total of 138 units. The apartments will offer a mixture of 3 bedroom, 2 bedroom, 1 bedroom, and studio layouts. The building’s exterior will reflect a modern design with brick, stone, and siding.

The development is being built by Owner/Contractor, Coryell Enterprises. Construction is estimated to begin Spring of 2014.

Oursbourn Natalie Oursbourn was recently hired as H Design Group’s Interior Designer with the creation of a new branch in the Springfield architecture firm. Natalie graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Housing and Interior Design from Missouri State University. While in school, Natalie began working at Interior Planning Consultants as a design assistant where she was immediately hired upon graduation as a staff designer.  After nearly 4 years at IPC, Natalie was hired on at H Design in new position that was created specifically for her talents.

As H Design’s sole Interior Designer, Natalie works side-by-side with architects and clients to help visions come to life. At the office, her responsibilities include cad work, sketchup designs, finished plans, finished selections, and furniture selection. Natalie’s project experience includes the interior design of several local buildings such as the Mercy Mocha on Mercy Main Campus, Ronald McDonald House on Mercy Campus, Great Southern Bank downtown branch, The Fieldhouse Sportscenter, Springfield Home Loan Center (below), and Diventures Scuba & Swim Center.

She is currently working on the new Bolivar Technical College, CMH OBGYN Clinic, Bear Village Phase III, and the new Elliott, Robinson & Company offices (below).

Outside of the office, Natalie spends as much time as possible with her husband of 5 years, Chris, and 1 1/2-year-old son, Ansley. When she is not working or with her family Natalie enjoys staying involved in her church, golf, ceramics, kayaking, and going to the movies whenever possible.

The well known Springfield accounting firm, Elliott, Robinson & Company, is planning to build a new, larger office using sustainable design concepts. The office will be built in the TerraGreen Office Park located off Blackman Road on the east side of Springfield, Missouri.

The architectural and interior designs, done by H Design Group, mimic the modern, ecosmart buildings within the TerraGreen site. This design utilizes eco-friendly features such as the use of natural light, sustainable materials, low-energy consumption products, and additional LEED concepts.

The new accounting building will be 13,000 sq. ft. with room for expansions; it will include 3 conference rooms, a large training room, break room, and approximately 50 offices.

The negotiated general contractor is Morelock-Ross with an anticipated start date of March 2014. Elliott, Robinson & Co., who just celebrated their 40th anniversay, should be in the new building by early 2015.

Lamar School District is getting a facelift. Demolition was done yesterday on the 1936 2-story building where special precautions were taken to remove asbestos.


Soon a new 22,000 sq. ft. building will be built in it’s place.

H Design Group is the architect for the district project. The design includes a new gymnasium, band room/storm shelter, classrooms, and administrative offices.

The addition will be complete by the Fall 2014 school year.

A new nursing school and medical center will soon be a part of Bolivar, Missouri. The new Bolivar Technical College (right) and a OB/GYN Clinic (left) will be developed by Citizens Memorial Healthcare.



Bolivar Technical College is designed as a 2-level, 28,830 sq. ft. School of Nursing including large and small classrooms, two skills classrooms, computer labs, library, large community rooms, and supportive administration offices. The new technical college is currently in the construction drawings phase.



The 8,500 sq. ft. OB/GYN Clinic is currently at the end of the design phase. The facility will house three physicians and include 8,500 sq. ft. of leasing space.



H Design Group is the architect that has been working with CMH to develop the new facilities. Both buildings are designed as 2-story walk out levels allowing ground entrances on both floors.

Construction is projected to begin in March of 2014 and completed early 2015. The project bids will be by invite only.

Improvements included a new Early Childhood Center on Republic Campus.

Additionally, renovations and improvements to Sweeny Elementary School included a new FEMA safe building, ten classroom additions, cafeteria and kitchen expansions.

H Design Group is currently working with Republic School District on a new Transit Facility to complete the final phase of improvements.

H Design Group is pleased to announce the promotions of two long-term members of the firm. Tyler J. Peck and Matt Capen have both been promoted to the position of Associate Architect. These promotions recognize the contributions made to H Design Group during their tenure and we wish them the best as they take on their new responsibilities.

IMG_2276-2Originally from Kirksville, Tyler attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a bachelors degree in Architecture in 1994. In 1995, Tyler moved to Springfield where he was hired by Hood Rich Architects and Engineers.  Over the following ten years he gained invaluable experience working alongside in-house civil, mechanical and structural engineers.  In need of a career change, Tyler joined H Design Group as Project Architect in 2006 and has since worked his way up to Associate Architect.

At H Design Group, Tyler’s primary responsibility as Associate Architect, has been taking building projects from the early schematic design concept through the finished project.  His careful direction of the project team greatly affects the completion of highly coordinated construction drawings.  During the construction phase of projects, Tyler is responsible for all communication between the General Contractor and the Owner.  He oversees that the project is completed according to the plans and specifications, to insure the owner is handed keys to the highest quality building possible.


Tyler has extensive experience with several project types including banks, educational, office/retail, religious and transit facilities, with a strong expertise in larger commercial construction.  Some of his more notable projects with H Design Group include;  CU Boonville Maintenance Campus, Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center (above), St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School Addition and the Dr. Naugle Medical Clinic.

At home, Tyler has been married to his wife Tracie for 21 years. They have two children, Hannah (age 17) and Hunter (age 12), who attend Nixa Public Schools.  When not at the office Tyler can be found leading his son’s Boy Scout troop, attending his daughter’s swim meets, hiking/camping or enjoying the outdoors on his dirtbike.

IMG_1581-2 Recently promoted to Associate Architect, Matt has been an employee of H Design for over 9 years. After earning a bachelor’s degree from University of Kansas School of Architecture and Urban Design in 2003, Matt moved to Springfield, Missouri and began working for Butler, Rosenbury & Partners.  He soon joined H Design Group in 2004 and worked his way from Intern Architect to Project Manager and later earned his professional architectural license in 2009.

Still in his early 30s, Matt is the youngest registered architect at H Design. His fresh outlook helps the firm stay current with the latest technical changes in such an ever-changing industry.  Additionally, Matt attends numerous continuing education seminars throughout the year allowing him to learn more about new and innovative products, stay up to date with the specialty aspects of the profession, and give H Design’s clients the quality of work they deserve.


Matt has worked on several projects with H Design Group including several apartment projects for TLC Properties, renovations to Pinegar Chevrolet’s Republic and Branson dealerships, and Meek Chiropractic’s new office (above) in Springfield. He is currently the Project Architect on Forsyth School District’s Performing Arts Center, Lamar School District’s new Gymnasium Building Addition, and MSU’s Department of Art and Design/UMKC School of Pharmacy at Brick City in downtown Springfield.

Outside of the office, Matt spends as much time as possible with his wife of 8 years Karen, daughter Makenna who is 4, and son Chase who is 3.  Matt’s also enjoys his involvement with Church at the Center, staying in shape, playing golf, and watching KU basketball.

The newly renovated  Central Office Building for Willard School District is complete.  H Design Group has created a design that provides the district offices with a more professional appearance.

The project involved a face-lift to the facade, additional offices, work rooms, a central conference area, restrooms and a future location for board meetings. This meeting room also serves as a training area for teachers to host district training sessions.

Energetic young students filled the gym floor of the new FEMA safe building today for a ribbon cutting ceremony.  Superintendent Chance Wistrom kicked off the welcoming of Sweeny Elementary with the help of Sweeny Principal, Dr. Elizabeth Engelhart.

Many of those involved also attended including architect (H Design Group), contractor (Federal Construction), engineers (Colvin Jones Davis), and project management (Professional Project Management).
