Brent Stevens and Joel Thomas of H Design Group recently collaborated with a long-term client to develop a design for a small modern cabin to be located on private property along the James River. The quaint 300 s.f. cabin will have a living space, bathroom , small kitchen and an exterior deck overlooking the water. Construction Materials will consist of wood grain cement board siding, metal roof, and aluminum storefront windows that complement the style of the primary residence on site. “Occassionally, we like to bring small design-oriented projects into the office and let the staff think outside the box,” says Brent Stevens AIA, principal of H Design Group.

Due to the school district’s redistricting plan implemented in 2010, H Design Group was awarded the contract  to assist the district in analyzing and planning various improvements to accommodate the massive transition involving six separate school buildings. Given the short amount of time available for construction during the summer vacation months of June and July, the improvement plans were phased to ensure that the necessary construction could be accommodated. The overall Phase #1 improvements included several facility upgrades including new administrative areas, new nurse’s offices, new restrooms, new classrooms, new computer labs, new HVAC, new cubbies, new playgrounds, new campus monument signage, new parking areas and new bus lanes.

Nahbolz Construction was the general contractor for the project and the project was constructed on time and under the $1,190,285.00 bid.
