H Design Group has been awarded the fundraising and architectural design services for St. Elizabeth Anne Seton’s 7 million dollar multi-phased addition projects. The current fundraising animation can be found at the following link: H Design Group – SEAS – Animation.m4v The project consists of a school addition, a new school cafeteria & commercial kitchen, a multi-purpose gymnasium, administration area, cafe/coffee-shop, enhanced common areas, conversion of old gym to fellowship hall, and miscellaneous site and facility improvements. The consulting team consists of Dake-Wells Architects (Design Consultant), Colvin Jones Davis (MEP), Mettemeyer Engineering (Structural), Friesen Engineering (Civil) and Interior Planning Consultants (Interior Design). Construction Documents are set to be completed in mid May of 2010. Nabholz Construction was awarded the General Construction contract and will be soliciting sub-contractor bids in late May.

The announcement of Doug, Julie and Brad Pitt’s financial donation to the O’Reilly Family Event Center on behalf of their parents has allowed the arena project to move from LEED Silver to LEED Gold. Because of the obvious notoriety of Springfield-native Brad Pitt, H Design Group has been getting many questions from news sources inquiring about the sustainable design aspects of the arena. Such components include alternative transportation features, minimal site disturbance, heat island effect, light pollution reduction, water efficient landscaping, water use reduction, optimal energy performance, enhanced commissioning, construction waste management, recycled/local materials, certified wood court floor, low-emitting materials, thermal comfort design, and rain-water collection.

H Design Group, LLC and the Greene County Medical Society Alliance have released their first collaborative effort in fighting tobacco use in children. The “Smoking Makes Me Ugly!!!” DVD is now available at www.smokingmakesmeugly.com. The DVD is composed of a 12 minute video, hosted by CigFree, a sarcastic cigarette. The viewers are walked through the body experiencing all the bad affects of smoking. The DVD also has interactive lessons that allow the user to learn about the harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke, the cost of smoking, the problems with secondhand smoke, and how smoke affects their outward appearance. The Smoking Makes Me Ugly!!! DVD also contains electronic teacher guides and worksheets (both in black and white and full color) which can be printed on demand.
